Working out of his home office in Fairfield Heights, he designed and constructed small home additions and garages as a sole trader, assisted by his wife Daphne and a small band of tradesmen. In 1969, the growth of the business necessitated a move to commercial premises and in 1970, Wal Robbins & Company Pty. Ltd. was formed and enjoyed great success specialising in additions for a variety of clientele, including Defence Service home extensions.
