The studio works across architectural, arts, and cultural projects, focusing on design that is contemporary, clean and simple, but rooted in a knowledge of craft and materiality. Founded by directors Simon Rochowski, Julin Ang and Joseph Byrne, the practice draws on their experience of working with a wide range of studios, clients and cultural institutions both in Australia and overseas.
The studio approaches all its work using a common set of skills and values, to encourage interaction and reduce boundaries between different disciplines. Our projects are undertaken in a spirit of collaboration and curiosity, and through a process of experimentation we seek to create projects that are distinctive and bespoke.
In 2018 the studio was nominated for the Dezeen Awards 'Emerging Architect of the Year', as well as selected for the Wallpaper* Magazine Architects' Directory - both publications featuring their selection of the top twenty emerging practices worldwide.

Our design approach combines a contemporary aesthetic with a pursuit of quality, craft and beauty. We approach all our projects with these same values, whether they are a family home, the interior of a museum, or an art installation. Our clients include private individuals, families and companies across Australia, as well as cultural institutions such as the University of Sydney and the British Museum.

This willingness to push boundaries is a lynchpin of studioplusthree's architectural output. Within a modest home the architects have combined a clear spatial diagram with a dialogue of texture and colour to distinguish, enrich and unify the old and new elements of the house. A sophisticated play of spatial and material associations.
